A major tech company announced a Gemini-enabled smart speaker with pre-orders and a June 25 retail launch.
Google announced the Google Home Speaker, its first audio device designed to run Gemini, and said it is available for pre-order with a retail launch on June 25 for $99.99.
The speaker runs Gemini for Home, which Google describes as a version of its assistant with advanced natural language understanding and multi-step reasoning that accepts natural phrasing, mid-sentence corrections, multiple commands in one utterance and short-term conversational context.
Gemini ships with 10 new natural-sounding voices and activates Continued Conversation in all supported languages so follow-up questions do not require repeating context.
An optional Google Home Premium tier enables Gemini Live for open-ended chats, Camera History Search to query recent Nest camera activity and Home Briefs to summarise what happened while you were away.
Hardware highlights include balanced 360° sound, advanced microphone processing, the ability to pair up to two speakers with a Google TV Streamer for spatial surround sound, and a soft underglow light ring that indicates listening or responding.
The speaker is wrapped in sustainably sourced 3D-knit textile, offered in Hazel and Porcelain plus US-exclusive Jade and Berry, and includes a physical microphone mute switch; pre-orders are open now.
