OpenAI has opened a request for proposals aimed at expanding US-based manufacturing of components that support advanced artificial intelligence infrastructure.

OpenAI said it is seeking proposals from manufacturers, suppliers and partners capable of building critical AI-related components and systems in the United States, as it accelerates the build-out of domestic AI infrastructure.

The company said the request for proposals follows the launch of its Stargate initiative almost one year ago.

Since then, OpenAI has announced planned capacity that puts it well over halfway towards its 10 gigawatt commitment, with investments translating into job creation and local economic growth.

The RFP invites proposals covering a wide range of manufacturing activities, including modules, tooling, equipment and final assembly for consumer electronics.

It also includes manufacturing for compute, power, cooling and supporting data centre hardware, as well as critical inputs for advanced robotics such as gearboxes, motors and power electronics.

OpenAI said the initiative targets a broader ecosystem beyond chips and data centres. Areas of interest include racks, cabling, networking equipment, cooling and power systems, power electronics, electromechanical modules and testing and assembly capacity.

The company said the aim is to shorten deployment timelines, strengthen supply chain resilience and extend US technology leadership as AI infrastructure scales.

OpenAI said proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with selected respondents contacted for follow-up. The deadline to submit a proposal is June.
