Apple assembled about 55 million iPhones in India last year, according to latest reports, taking India’s share of the company’s iPhone output to about a quarter of all production.
The increase follows Apple’s push to shift manufacturing and diversify away from sole dependence upon Chinese manufacturing, and at the same time to avoid tariffs.
Production in India rose from 36 million the prior year, roughly a 53% increase, while Apple’s global iPhone output is about 220 million to 230 million units.
Apple is now said to be aiming for further expansion of Indian production to about 60 million iPhones annually by year-end, continuing the company’s China-to-India manufacturing pivot.
