Wired reported the rise and linked it to a policy overhaul in which Meta said its prior moderation had been too strict and was limiting political debate.
“We have been over‑enforcing our rules, limiting legitimate political debate and censoring too much trivial content and subjecting too many people to frustrating enforcement actions,” Joel Kaplan, Meta’s chief global affairs officer, wrote in a blog post when the company announced the changes.
The Wired piece frames the moderation shift as a deliberate rollback of enforcement that coincided with a marked uptick in threatening content toward public officials.
